Arvada Roofing Company and Contractor

Roofing contractors and companies in Arvada, Colorado really need to keep up to date with the current City roofing code. Arvada chooses to follow the International Code Book which has switched back and forth in the last few years on at least one issue.

As of May, 2013, Arvada does not require ice and water shield to installed when a roof undergoes replacement; this is because the 2009 IBC, which Arvada currently adheres to, did not require it. The earlier 2006 version did require the extra protection, and the 2012 version, which Arvada may adopt soon, again requires the shield.

“Ice and water shield” is the extra roofing product installed under the shingles, over the house’s soffit, and sometimes around roof penetrations. It is put in place to prevent the damage that can occur when ice damns form, particularly in gutters.

Water ponds up behind these miniature dams, freezing and thawing with the daily temperature fluctuations. The water can then infiltrate under the shingles and into the soffit, causing costly damage.

While Arvada officials are aware of the benefits of Ice and Water shield. Arvada officials also recognizw the other perspective of ice and water shield. They want to keep costs down for the homeowners, and are reluctant to demand roofing companies and contractors install a material, which may be just an extra expense where the payoff is not clear cut.

Mile High Roofing, Inc. owner and founder Scott Jeffrey, still believes ice and water shield may a worthwhile investment for Arvada homeowners. Arvada, lying in the northwest “edge of town,” is subject to more extremes of weather and wind, being closer to the foothills, than some of the other Denver Metro suburbs.

Mile High Roofing, Inc has strong ties to Arvada. Several employees live there, including Mr. Jeffrey’s father, who works for the company. Mile High Roofing has done many roof replacements in Arvada, including his father’s, a couple of their relatives, and their neighbors.
